KB2 were the engineers for a Vanguard Self Storage building in Bath, working with Designscape Architects.
The scheme provided circa 7,000m² of storage and commercial space along with a feature atrium specifically designed to display an original DH100 Vampire jet fighter which is suspended from the roof structure.
Located within a residential area of Bath, the warehouse is designed to reflect the Bath Stone tradition with high quality facade materials used throughout.
The site is adjacent to a watercourse which, in the early 1800s, used to feed a tannery before a laundry building which occupied the site from 1879. Structural elements from the original Belfast Truss roof were retained and reused in the new building.
Challenging ground conditions resulting from historic pond and river deposits were overcome by the use of ground improvement techniques which were used in lieu of traditional piling.
