KB2 were the civil and structural engineers for the conversion of an historic stone barn located in a beautiful part of North Somerset.
The existing building was structurally assessed and the heavy stone walls found to be in remarkably good condition for their age. These were retained but the existing timbers had to be replaced due to widespread decay and insect attack which had taken place over many years of the building being exposed to the elements.
The design consisted of repair and replacement of parts of the existing structure along with a single storey extension; all of which was sensitively detailed to respect the historic fabric. This included using solid oak trusses and framing.
The end result is a luxury, 5 bedroom family home with a modern touch.
