Poole Farm

Poole Farm Barn is a project associated with the conversion of an existing agricultural building in North Somerset in to a residential dwelling.

KB2 had a two stage involvement. The first stage was submitting an initial structural report to support the planning Part Q application, and this involved ascertaining whether the primary structure of the existing building was suitable for re-use. Upon receipt of planning permission, KB2 provided detailed design for the conversion.

The existing building was a steel frame (portal frame with lean-to frame) with concrete base slab. The existing structure was assessed suitable for re-use with localised strengthening and remedial works where necessary. Internally a new mezzanine was constructed as well as new jumbo-stud partition walls and openings through masonry cavity walls. The roof was also enhanced to create a feature roof greatly adding to the aesthetics of the building.

The finished building combines modern high-spec finishes along exposed steelwork reflecting the buildings past. The location of the building benefits from fantastic views over an Area of Outstanding Beauty and this is utilised by large glazing panels on the southern and eastern elevations.
