KB2 are providing civil and structural engineering services for the construction of a student accommodation building housing 190 students across 5 storeys in Stokes Croft.
At ground floor there is flexible commercial space situated on the primary Stokes Croft Façade wrapping around to Moon Street. An outdoor courtyard, at the heart of the scheme, takes inspiration from an Almshouse which used to occupy the site and was destroyed in WW2.
The building is a reinforced concrete frame, providing good insulation properties between floors, with cranked steel sections forming a stepped back mansard roof. The substructure consists of piled foundations utilising the shallow underlying bedrock at 3m depth.
