Commissioned by the Town Council, the new build community centre in Bovey Tracey houses the town library, town council offices, public conveniences along with a community and tourist information centre.
The site was formerly occupied by an historic public house destroyed by fire and left derelict for many years before being purchased by the council to enable them to recognise their ambition of building a new community hub.
KB2 provided structural and civil engineering services from concept to completion working alongside the client, design team, and contractor to provide a design that fulfils the brief and within budget.
The front part of the building is a vaulted steel frame with folding partitions which provides the main community space, whilst the rear part of the building is traditional build and houses offices and back of house areas. The building sits within the floodplain of the adjacent River Bovey which presented many engineering challenges that we were able to overcome.
